Ham Radio is a hobby I started when I was 13, and recently got back into.

Unfortunately, the hobby has dwindled somewhat with the onset of cell phones and the Internet, but it's still kept alive by the 675,000 of us in the US, and almost 3 million world wide.

See the Wiki article and the ARRL website for a good introduction to the what the hobby is and who we are. I attribute a good deal of my career successes to the experience and knowledge I picked up in this hobby.

Here's the my station today. The 'ON THE AIR' sign came from an old commerical radio station.

And of course, Morse code was the *first* real digital mode of communication!

Some hams and ex-hams  you might have heard of: Arthur Godfrey, Barry Goldwater, Walter Cronkite, John Sculley and Steve Wozniak, Joe Walsh (Eagles), John Draper (aka Captain Crunch), Garry Shandling, Shari Belafonte, Nolan Bushnell (Atari), and many more.

Here's a great video clip of two hip teenage texters, getting their asses whipped by Morse code on the Jay Leno show.
